U.S. Immigration and Customers Enforcement is reporting that the number of foreign students attending US schools is growing rapidly despite the global economic downturn. In excess of 670,000, the increase in foreign students choosing the United States shows a rate of growth not seen since 1980 and continues a pattern of growth over the past three years.
After Sept. 11 terrorist attacks ICE developed the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) to provide real-time management of records for schools and programs, students, exchange visitors, and their dependents throughout the duration of approved participation within the U.S. education system.
The partnership between U.S. Immigration and Customers Enforcement (ICE) and the academic community plays a big role in securing the U.S. student visa system.
