Form I-751 Filing Location Changes

|

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced a change to the filing location for Form I-751, “Petition to Remove the Conditions of Residence.” As of January 14, 2015, persons living in the following states must file their Form I-751 with the California Service Center, not the Vermont Service Center:

  • Louisiana
  • New Mexico
  • Oklahoma
  • South Carolina
  • Tennessee
  • Texas

New Petitions
As of January 14, 2015, all new petitions for the states listed above should be filed with the California Service Center. However, the Vermont Service Center will continue to accept petitions received until February 16, 2015. For petitions received between February 17, 2015, and March 16, 2015, the Vermont Service Center will forward petitions to the California Service Center. However, any petition received on or after March 17, 2015, by the Vermont Service Center will be rejected for incorrect jurisdiction.

Pending Cases
The filing location change only affects newly filed petitions. Therefore, any petition currently pending at the Vermont Service Center will continue to be processed by the Vermont Service Center.

Notices from USCIS
If you receive a notice from USCIS after filing your Form I-751, please be sure to read the notice carefully. Any responses to the USCIS must be sent to the service center listed on the notice, regardless of the filing location change noted above.
