Four Republican and four Democratic Senators came together to propose a legislative reform addressing border control issues. Currently, there are approximately 11 million undocumented immigrants living in the US. The reform proposes to secure the resources necessary to heighten and tighten border patrol in the US.
The proposal sets to establish four basic goals in reforming the immigration system:
-
To allow a fair but strict path for illegal immigrants to become citizens, while still keeping secure borders and tracking the egress of legal immigrants;
-
Reform the legal immigration system to create an easier process for those immigrants contributing to the American economy and helping strengthen American families;
-
Set systems to prevent and deter identity theft and the hiring of unauthorized immigrant workers;
-
Improve the current system which admits future workers’ while still protecting all workers.
